The Silverado 1500 is celebrating 25 years on the market as its own nameplate, and it continues to break the mold, evolving trends within the full-size pickup truck segment even to this very day.
The 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 offers truck shoppers a lot of new features, plenty of updates, and the expected utility and functionality that the Silverado series is known for. The persistence of Chevy's pushing the boundaries is what keeps it among the top-sellers in the North American auto market and keeps rivals like the Ram 1500 and Ford F-150 on their toes.
For 2024, the Silverado 1500 adds a number of worthwhile features to the lineup, starting with renaming the turbocharged 2.7-liter inline four-cylinder to the TurboMax. The ZR2 off-road trim is also now able to be paired with the Duramax Turbo-Diesel, while active dual-exhaust for Sport mode is now included with the 6.2-liter V8 engine.
Additionally, adaptive cruise control has been made standard on the High Country, and OnStar support and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto have been made standard on the WT trim. What's more is that the Blackout Appearance package has been made available for select trims, while the Midnight Edition can be paired with the High Country.
Chevy also made a few modifications to the safety of the Silverado 1500 for 2024, including front and rear park assist being added to the Safety Package for the WT trim and making the rear seat belt indicator standard across all trims. This is in addition to two brand-new colors joining the lineup: Lakeshore Blue Metallic and Slate Gray Metallic.
The 2024 Silverado 1500 is available in three cab formats—regular, double, and crew—as well as three bed formats: short, standard, and long. You can get the 2024 Silverado 1500 in nine trims, starting with the WT, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, LT Trail Boss, RST, LTZ, High Country, and ZR2.

There are four distinct powertrains for the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500, available in either rear- or four-wheel drive. The base powertrain is a 2.7-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder appropriately named the TurboMax, which outputs 310 hp at 430 lb-ft of torque. The TurboMax is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 is next in line and makes a total of 355 hp at 383 lb-ft of torque, while the larger 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8 produces 420 hp at 460 lb-ft of torque. And finally, there is the 3.0-liter Duramax inline six-cylinder turbo-diesel that makes 305 hp at 495 lb-ft of torque. The V8 engines and the Duramax are all paired with a ten-speed automatic transmission.
The Silverado 1500 comes standard with a 3.42 rear axle ratio, but select trims can be paired with the 3.73 rear axle ratio for improved application of torque, resulting in better traction control. An automatic locking rear differential is also available, which is great for those who wish to travel off-road. When it comes to traction and stability, all trims come standard with StabiliTrak for electronically controlled stability management.
If you want even more improved handling, you can take advantage of the available adaptive ride control for the High Country, which dynamically adjusts the suspension and riding stiffness based on the road conditions.
Performance-improving components—such as the cat-back performance exhaust—are also available, along with the availability of an electronic transmission range selector. If you're also interested in upgrading how the Silverado 1500 performs on the road, the dirt, or even the track, there is a Brembo brake kit featuring six-piston front and rear red Brembo brake calipers; this gives you instant stopping power with reliable braking.
Added performance features such as Hill Descent Control for trailering and an integrated trailer brake controller help with the way the Silverado 1500 handles, ensuring a measure of safety when towing or trailering large loads. For those of you keen on taking your Silverado 1500 off the beaten path, there is also a Z71 Suspension Kit featuring a two-inch factory lift with Rancho monotube shocks, which is an affordable alternative to the more rugged and highly capable ZR2 trim.
The 2024 Silverado 1500 is highly capable, often being employed in towing, trailering, hauling, and off-roading. When properly equipped, the base 2.7-liter TurboMax engine is capable of towing up to 9,500 lbs and managing a payload capacity of 2,260 lbs.
The 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 is capable of trailering up to 11,300 lbs when properly equipped, and it has a max payload capacity of 2,180 lbs. The 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8 is capable of trailering up to 13,300 lbs and has a max payload capacity of 1,980 lbs, while the Duramax has the same trailering rating and a max payload rating of 1,970 lbs.
In terms of cargo capacity, the three bed sizes of the Silverado 1500 offer distinct dimensions, including a short five-foot, eight-inch bed that provides up to 62.9 cu.ft. of cargo volume, a standard six-foot, six-inch bed that provides up to 71.7 cu.ft. of cargo volume, and a long eight-foot, two-inch bed that gives you 89.1 cu.ft. of cargo volume.
The bed utility is further amplified with the inclusion of the available Multi-Flex tailgate, which features six different tailgate functionalities, including raised and lower load-stop functionality, a raised work surface, a step-in ladder for the bed box, and a normal tailgate; this gives the Silverado 1500 a lot more utility than some of its nearest competitors.
What's more, the Silverado 1500 has great off-road capabilities, especially with the highly regarded ZR2 trim. It features the racing-engineered Multimatic DSSV spool-valve dampers, as well as a higher ground clearance thanks to its lifted suspension. The ZR2 also features off-road chassis and suspension calibrations for off-road use, and 33.5-inch tires.
You also have front tow hooks, steel skid plates, steel front and rear bumpers, and a unique livery design. You can also gain even more off-road efficiency with the ZR2 Bison Edition, featuring AEV skid plates, badging, 35-inch mud-terrain tires, front and rear jounce dampers, and AEV 17-inch beadlock capable wheels, making it the ultimate off-road iteration of the Silverado 1500.
Even with a lot of great functionality at the heart of the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500, there is still a large measure of convenience and comfort available for the truck, including ten-way power front driver and front passenger seats with lumbar support, available in cloth, vinyl, and leather upholstery. There are also driver memory settings, available heated and ventilated seats, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
Automated assist steps, power windows and locks, and heated steering with steering-mounted media controls also add to the convenience levels available in the Silverado 1500's cabin. You also have available remote access and remote start, as well as seatback storage, hidden under-seat storage compartments, and a console-mounted safe for storing essential items.
A built-in compass, a 12.3-inch HD customizable digital driver display, and an available 13.4-inch HD touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support bolster the tech features within the cabin. Select trims are also available with a head-up display wherein you won't have to take your eyes off the road to monitor vehicle health and telemetry.
The infotainment suite also features plenty of trailering technology for hitching the Silverado 1500, trailering cameras so you can monitor the load, and features like Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert for ensuring you can trailer safely while moving between lanes.
You even have Wi-Fi 4G LTE connectivity for smart devices even when you aren't near any network hotspots, and you have built-in OnStar and Connected Services support for contacting emergency services and navigation thanks to Google Built-In with voice-activated commands.
These systems all work in conjunction with the Chevy Safety Assist suite, which includes Forward Collision Alert with Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Front Pedestrian Braking, Following Distance Indicator, IntelliBeam High Beam Assist, and an HD Rear Vision Camera. Chevy's Super Cruise—a semi-autonomous, hands-free driving system—is available for the Silverado 1500 High Country.
