For more than 25 years, the Chevy Silverado has been one of the most impressive full-size trucks on the road, setting the standard for power, capability, and bold design that other pickups have struggled to match. Now, Chevy is taking things even further with the new Silverado EV, an all-electric truck that continues to build on their remarkable legacy for performance and work-focused design. With the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV, we find the inaugural year for this all-new truck, showcasing what the future holds for the auto industry and how things are moving forward. While electric vehicles might not be right for every driver just yet, we love seeing how Chevy is paving the way for electrified power, and we cannot wait to see what the future holds.

The Silverado EV delivers everything we were hoping for when Chevy first announced they were working on an all-electric truck and then some. For starters, two versions of the Silverado EV are available this year: the WT, which is designed primarily for use in fleets, and the RST First Edition, which is a stunning celebration of this new truck. Chevy knows that the all-electric range is a concern for many drivers, especially truck owners, but with their advanced Ultium battery platform, they have taken things to a level we never expected. The RST model can go an estimated 440 miles from a full charge, while the 4WT version of the Silverado EV gets an EPA-estimated 450 miles of range from a full charge, leaving their competitors in their dust.

Along with this impressive range, the Silverado EV is still a hard-working truck that can help you tackle any job. When properly equipped, you get up to 10,000 lbs of maximum towing with the Silverado EV and up to 1,500 lbs of payload capacity. While these numbers might not match the gas-powered Silverado 1500 just yet, they clearly show how well Chevy’s engineers are building this truck for daily use as a workhorse. Inside the Silverado EV, you will find a gorgeous interior with a 17-inch freeform infotainment display inside the RST model, joined by an 11-inch driver instrument display, plus a head-up display with another 14 inches of information for you while driving. Add more remarkable tech like the new hands-free start that automatically turns on the vehicle when you get inside, and you have a truck built for a new generation of drivers.

  • Power and Capability

It does not matter if you are looking at a conventional truck with a gas-powered engine or an all-electric pickup with a battery pack and motors; your vehicle should have plenty of power. Any truck worth its weight can deliver an impressive driving experience thanks to the bold power it delivers, and it can handle plenty of towing and payload to help you tackle anything you need. Chevy understands this better than anyone else, which is why the 2024 Silverado EV is built with some serious muscle and the ability to haul a lot of weight.

    Horsepower and Torque

Although we still do not know the full range of performance options that will be offered when more Silverado EV trims become available, it already excels with power to spare. For example, you have the WT model that is launching for fleet customers, which features 510 hp and 615 lb-ft of torque, giving you a fantastic driving experience that is perfect for getting plenty of work done. To really let the Silverado EV loose, however, there is the RST First Edition with its available Wide Open Watts Mode, which is essentially electric launch control: this propels the Silverado EV with 754 hp and more than 785 lb-ft of torque, letting it go from 0 to 60 mph in less than 4.5 seconds.

    Towing

All that power makes the Silverado EV incredibly fun to drive but also lets it handle whatever work you need. The RST model offers up to 10,000 lbs of maximum towing capacity and up to 1,500 lbs of payload. With the 4WT model for fleet customers, the Silverado EV can handle the same towing and up to 1,400 lbs of maximum payload. This is tremendous capability for an electric truck, and it is perfect for hauling lumber to a job site, driving around with tools and equipment in the bed, or anything else you might need.

  • Range

A person is shown charging a 2024 Chevy Silverado EV.

One of the biggest concerns people have when it comes to shifting to all-electric vehicles is whether they will have enough driving range. That was understandable in the past since early EVs could have painfully short ranges that made them impractical for many drivers. These days, however, EV ranges have become far more functional and reliable, with few vehicles highlighting this as well as the Silverado EV does.

The range depends on which 2024 Chevy Silverado EV model you choose, but both of them can go for a long time without stopping. If you pick the RST, you get a GM-estimated 440 miles of maximum range from a full charge, which is a greater standard range than any competitor. Perhaps more impressive, the WT model, which is launching first as a fleet-exclusive option, can get an EPA-estimated 450 miles of range from a full charge. This incredible distance surpasses what we had initially expected and proves how well Chevy understands the needs of their truck customers.

    Charging Your EV

Your driving range is only part of the equation–just as important is how easy it is to keep your vehicle charged up. The Silverado EV is the perfect example of how easy it is to charge modern electric vehicles thanks to support for multiple charging methods. You can use level 1 or level 2 charging at home to get a full charge overnight for your truck or use DC fast charging. At a public charging station with support for the Silverado’s up to 350kW charging platform, you can get about 100 miles of range from just a 10-minute charge. This makes it easy to tackle everything you need throughout the day, whether that means getting supplies to a worksite, helping a family member move a piece of furniture, or even going on a long road trip in the head-turning Silverado EV.

  • Innovative Technology

A black 2024 Chevy Silverado EV RST is shown driving on a highway.

Inside and out, the 2024 Silverado EV is a testament to Chevy’s commitment to and pursuit of advanced technology that will change how we drive. The electrified power system is a major part of that, of course, but just as remarkable is the kind of innovative tech features that you get to enjoy with this truck. One of the first things you will notice when you get inside the Silverado EV RST is the massive 17-inch freeform infotainment display with 3D animations and a stunning 11-inch driver instrument display. These two screens look fantastic together and make it easy to keep an eye on important information. The 14-inch driver head-up display makes it even simpler to track what you need while keeping your eyes on the road.

    Ultifi Software

Behind all of this great tech is a new Linux-based software system called Ultifi, which has been developed in-house at GM. The Silverado EV is the first application of this new technology that separates the truck’s software from its hardware more efficiently, allowing for superior performance and rapid software updates to keep your vehicle on the cutting edge of what is possible. One of our favorite features about this truck is that you can tap into all of the power that Chevy and GM have packed into it, thanks to the new PowerBase charging system with up to 10 available outlets and a total of 10.2kW of power. With the required equipment, you can use this for power tools and equipment at a job site, a television or blender at a campsite, or even to power your house in an emergency. This ensures you have the tools and technology you need for work, play, and so much more.
